Prime Day Picks for Highly Sensitive Kids

Prime Big Deal Days are here! I’ve picked out a few Amazon deals that could be particularly useful for families with highly sensitive children – from helping with noise and overwhelm to providing quiet, absorbing activities – i.e. bucket emptying time.

A quick note before you shop: Prime Day deals are only available to Amazon Prime members, so you’ll need a Prime membership to get the advertised deal prices. Don’t have Prime? You can find out more about Amazon Prime and sign up here.

Prices and availability can change quickly during Prime Big Deal Days, so always check the current price on Amazon before buying.

If noise is a problem

My three children all wore noise cancelling headphones in their primary schools to reduce classroom noise. My eldest also wore them during firework displays and when we went to see Monster Jam in Rotterdam. So noise cancelling headphones are great for the everyday noise, but the unusual excessive noise too.

Alpine Muffy Baby/Toddler Ear Muffs: also on offer at the moment. My youngest used Alpine Muffy in school when he was little and they were comfortable and effective. These are a size smaller for the littlest of ears.

If your child needs to keep their hands active

Kinetic sand was a huge hit here when my kids were little (and I must admit, I loved it too!). We found it to be a great bucket emptier and a way to keep their hands busy when they needed to fidget. It doesn’t dry out and it feels sensational – highly recommend as a calming tool.

We had a similar set to this one – a construction site, all in one case that you could then pack way and easily store. It was used daily! Currently 16% off normal price.

For quiet, screen-free time

Screen-free is key here, because sitting on a tablet may seem like ‘quiet-time’ but it is definitely a bucket-filling activity. For more on screen time, read: The Impact of Electronic Devices on Highly Sensitive Children.

So, screen-free quiet time is important. This doesn’t have to mean silence. It’s all about decompressing and less of everything.

A Toniebox can be a lovely way to create some quiet time for children aged 1 – 9. Your child can choose a favourite story, song, or audio adventure and simply listen, without a screen demanding their attention.

For some children, having a familiar story or favourite music to return to can be comforting and predictable – particularly after a busy school day, a noisy outing or a situation that has left their bucket full.

Of course, every HSC is different. Some will find simply listening relaxing, while others may need movement, creativity or alone time. (For more bucket emptying ideas, dip into

The Toniebox comes with different bundles, depending on your child’s interests. You place a figurine on the top of the box and it plays associated audio. Simple and easy enough for your child to operate.

Another tool for quiet play is a modular couch. Children can build and make a den for themselves, or simply sit doing a quiet activity. It’s great for bucket time and imagination. Currently 15% cheaper.

For focused play

Focused play is exactly what some children need to empty their bucket. If that’s your child, then think along the lines of Duplo/Lego and Magna Tiles. The beauty of Lego is that no matter what your child’s interests are, there is sure to be a Lego set perfect for them and no matter what age they are, Lego is suitable. I (being a respectable non-child age *cough*) have quite the collection of flowers, cacti and Japanese Lego sets around the house).

Today’s deals:

Age 6+ Lego Friends Treehouse

Age 9+ Lego Technic

Age 9+ Lego Star Wars – The Mandalorian’s N-1 Starfighter

Magna Tiles

Magna Tiles are magnetic pieces that children can build with. An ideal bucket-emptying activity. Like Lego, there is a world of choice when it comes to sets. These are all subject to Prime Big Deals:

Coral Reef 25-Piece Magnetic Construction Set

Fire station 50-piece set

For the freestylers….microMAGS 70-Piece set
