Cloud Watching: Calming Technique for a Highly Sensitive Child

Next time your child needs a little help emptying their bucket try cloud watching. Cloud watching is a fabulous calming technique for a highly sensitive child.

For the ultimate calming exercise, grab them by the hand and take them outside to watch the clouds.

Look up.

Ask them what they see floating in the sky.

Do you see a soaring dragon in the clouds?
A soaring dragon?
Do you see my big fat cuddly legless elephant?
Do you see my big fat cuddly legless elephant?

Calming Clouds

You’ll notice after just a few minutes that they are engrossed in their fantasy world – and calm! To make things even more relaxed lie down on the grass or on a blanket and then use the images you see to make up stories. Being outside in itself can have a calming impact. With the clouds and lots of imagination thrown in, the results are surprising.

Of course, if the weather isn’t cooperating, you can also cloud watch from inside through a window.

    Do you know I spend ages in the summer chilling in the garden watching clouds it is so calming, my youngest son loves sitting with me making shapes from the clouds xx

  2. One of my kids would always point out animals in the clouds, sign of a great imagination. All kinds of possibilities in these formations.
