Book Release: 101 Ways to Help Your Highly Sensitive Child Empty Their Bucket

This Happy Sensitive Kids book has been a labour of love. It’s been a long time in the making, but “101 Ways to Help Your Highly Sensitive Child Empty Their Bucket: Calming Tools During Times of Overwhelm” is now a fact. The book has been published. It’s available. It’s live. Ok, you get it.

This pocket sized guide is full of ideas to help you prevent your child’s bucket spilling over. Fifteen to twenty percent of the population is highly sensitive.

Highly sensitive people (HSP) process deeply, intently notice, and absorb their surroundings. So a HSP’s nervous system quickly becomes overloaded and in turn overwhelmed. This manifests itself in many ways for a child – from tears to meltdowns.

It’s like carrying a full bucket around. And so this book gives you tips to not only empty that bucket, but to help you help your child prevent their bucket from filling in the first place.

101 Ways to Help Your Highly Sensitive Child Empty Their Bucket: Calming Tools During Times of Overwhelm

Why Have I Written “101 Ways to Help Your Highly Sensitive Child Empty Their Bucket”?

Are you a parent who regularly picks your young child off the ground on the school playground? Do you know what it’s like to hear the slam of a door once your child gets home from school?

Do busy environments overwhelm your highly sensitive child (HSC)? Is a day at school overwhelming for your HSC?

You are not alone. And there is a way you can help your HSC.

Bucket time.

What is the Happy Sensitive Kids ‘Bucket Time’ About?

A highly sensitive child processes sensory stimuli deeply and extensively and is therefore easily overwhelmed by busy activities, a day at school or just too much sensory input in general.

Everything a HSC experiences go into their imaginary bucket. The younger a child is, the more goes into their bucket as they are unable to determine what needs to be filtered out.

Too much stimulation and their bucket overflows. We can learn to recognise the signs of an overflowing bucket: 6 Signs Your Highly Sensitive Child is Overwhelmed (aka Their Bucket is Full).

And we can learn to help our HSCs manage their buckets better.

Purposely setting aside regular bucket time gives your HSC the time and space they need to empty out their full bucket. Better still, with careful planning, you can avoid your HSC’s bucket filling in the first place.

There’s an activity to help you with your HSC’s bucket here on the HSK blog: A Bucket Activity for Highly Sensitive Children (with free printable).

The key is learning what empties your child’s bucket.

Bucket Emptiers

In short, I created “101 Ideas to Help Your Highly Sensitive Child Empty Their Bucket: Calming Tools During Times of Overwhelm” in response to parents like you who asked for bucket emptying ideas.

A common question asked in the HSK community is “What activities are bucket emptiers?”

It’s important to know that each child is different and will react differently to activities. What fills one child’s bucket up will empty another’s. You know your child, and are therefore best placed to learn what fills and empties your HSC’s bucket.

I would love to be able to buy/read this book, but we don’t have a kindle. Is there any other way to purchase than from the amazon store/kindle reader?

You can download the Kindle app for a tablet or smartphone and buy books for Kindle that way. I don’t own a Kindle either but read lits through the app. It works brilliantly.
