Welcome to Happy Sensitive Kids

Welcome. I am so excited to launch Happy Sensitive Kids, a blog about raising highly sensitive children. It’s a topic close to my heart.

Highly sensitive has been a dominating and common thread of my family’s life for years.

I am the mother of three highly sensitive children. My three sons have different highly sensitive traits in varying degrees. Once my eldest started primary school it became apparent just how big a deal being a highly sensitive child is.

I am highly sensitive too. This is something I discovered in the course of learning how to parent my highly sensitive children.

Number 1 Goal When Raising Highly Sensitive Children?

My mission is to inspire and support parents to raise confident highly sensitive children who flourish, not in spite of, but because of their sensitive traits.

My aim is to shout about being highly sensitive, to make sure that every person that comes in to contact with our children understands the world through their eyes.

A highly sensitive child’s world feels noisier to them than other children’s. The world, as they see it, is usually overwhelming.

We can throw the usual instruction books out of the window when it comes to parenting a highly sensitive child. That’s something I learned within months of my eldest son’s birth. Or maybe it was weeks.

The world we live in is not ideal for highly sensitive people; it’s busy, noisy, rushed and those that shout loudest get the attention. And those that shout loudest drown out the thoughts of the highly sensitive amongst us. However, it doesn’t mean we have nothing to say – we just need the right environment to share our thoughts in.

As parents, we need to give our children the right tools to cope in a world that is not designed for highly sensitive people.

We need to help our children find their way in classrooms that weren’t designed with sensitive souls in mind.

We need to support our children in their journey through childhood and their teenage years so they mature into well-rounded, confident adults. Adults that treasure their highly sensitive traits, rather than shy away from them. Like most of us who are now parents of highly sensitive children probably have. Let’s raise happy sensitive kids that become happy sensitive adults!

That’s why I started the Happy Sensitive Kids blog.

I declare the Happy Sensitive Kids blog officially open and I hope you’ll stay with me for this new blogging adventure.

  1. This is so beautiful Amanda. It fills my heart with joy to see more and more people spreading the word. Our voices, the voices of our Highly Sensitive Children, they need to be heard too in this ridiculously noisy world.
