Welcome. I am so excited to launch this new blog about raising highly sensitive children. It’s a topic close to my heart, a dominating factor of my family’s life for years. I am the mother of highly sensitive children – my three sons show highly sensitive traits in one degree or another. I am myself also highly sensitive, something I discovered whilst learning how to parent a highly sensitive child.
I am not new to blogging, I have been blogging in one form or another since 2008. Up to now, I have been writing about parenting highly sensitive children on my Expat Life with a Double Buggy blog, as well as in other media, but recently it started feeling uncomfortable. I began thinking about a dedicated platform where I could write about this beautiful topic without it being lost in the posts about my expat life. Then I started taking Jeff Goins’ Intentional Blogging challenge and my niggles just got more irritating, and so my ideas started to take form for a new blog.
My aim is to shout about being highly sensitive, to make sure that every person that comes in to contact with my children understands the world through their eyes. Their world is noisier than other children’s, the world as they see it is usually overwhelming and the normal instruction book that so many like to use isn’t a good fit.
The world we live in is not ideal for highly sensitive people; it’s busy, noisy, rushed and those that shout loudest get heard. Those that shout loudest drown out the thoughts of the highly sensitive amongst us but it doesn’t mean we have nothing to say – we just need the right environment to share our thoughts in. As parents, we need to give our children the right tools to cope in a world that is not designed for highly sensitive people. We need to help our children find their way in classrooms that weren’t designed with sensitive souls in mind. We need to support our children in their journey through childhood and their teenage years so they mature into well-rounded, confident adults who treasure their highly sensitive traits, rather than shy away from them. That’s why I write.
So here it is, my new platform to shout from. The Happy Sensitive Kids blog is officially born and I hope you’ll stay with me for this new blogging adventure.
