I don’t know about you, but we’re certainly picking up the pieces from Christmas in our house. And that was even though we purposely kept it low key and quiet.
We had a lovely, wonderful Christmas Day with just the five of us. We spent a lot less time this year opening presents and more time just playing and being together, including a very traditional British Christmas lunch together which even the kids enjoyed. On Boxing Day we had some family over but it was still quiet and relaxed.
However, whatever you do, it is still a lot for highly sensitive children to take in and process – and the outbursts, meltdowns and sheer physical tiredness since is notable…….. So we’ve been taking it even calmer and easier since Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
On top of Christmas my eldest is doing a fast-track intensive swimming diploma course this week and today is the last day. He’s been a whirlwind all week but has coped so much better than I could have dreamed of with three hours of swimming five times overs the course of seven days. He has in fact thrived!
Sometimes these beautiful HSCs just amaze you and prove you wrong on every count. He has had his moments for sure over the week, but they have been far outweighed by the moments he has shone, the many moments he has positively glowed with happiness and pride at how well he is swimming. The older he gets the more resilient he is. For those of you with little HSCs, there is light at the end of the tunnel.
All being well, he will earn his B Diploma today. Fingers crossed.
If you celebrate Christmas, I hope you have had a wonderful week with your family and friends and that there has been calm, peace and love in your home…….
